Our regular blood donation day is coming up soon! March 7th, 2019. 10am – 5pm.
I bet that quite a few of you traveled abroad during the Christmas season. Where did you go? Do you know that you cannot donate blood if you visited certain countries?
In the past year, Dream Impact co-organized two blood donation days with the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Center. We found that even though you want to donate blood, you might be rejected due to a low level of iron in your blood or have visited places at risk of the Zika virus.
These areas are within the Americas, the Western Pacific, Africa and Southeast Asia. Details can be found at https://www5.ha.org.hk/rcbts/hkarticlelistview.asp?nid=214&bid=5&sid=0&MenuID=2#.XDWWalwzZPY. If you visited the above areas, you cannot donate blood within 28 days of returning to Hong Kong. Therefore, the number of blood donors always drop on average after long public holidays. As a result, we have scheduled our blood donation one month after the holiday.
The current level of stock in the blood bank is at a low level in Hong Kong, especially O positive blood. Dream Impact, will continuously support blood donation this year and onwards. Reserve a time today and gather friends in Lai Chi Kok to donate blood together on March 7th!
